The Institute of Local Governance is a governance and social accountability research organization of the Southeast Asian Institute of Public Management Inc. It serves as the cornerstone of the institution’s mandate as the premiere School of Governance and Management in the region with its history dating back to 2009 when Ecolink Philippines, the NGO which established the SAIPM, was founded.
Since 2009, the Institute of Local Governance has implemented projects in several countries in Southeast Asia and has partnered with many International NGO’s including the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the World Bank Institute, DFID, Partnership for Transparency Fund, Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, AusAid, USAID, the U.S. State Department, the Makati Business Club, and the Ateneo School of Government. Over the years, the Institute has firm partnership with government agencies such as the Department of Tourism, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, among others.
The Institute of Local Governance seeks to improve the quality of governance among public offices in the region and the quality of services of these offices towards citizens, especially on marginalized peoples.
The Institute establishes itself as a key research institution with the following goals:
- To significantly improve the policy structures of national and local government instrumentalities through scientific, research-based policy reforms and institutional development mechanisms.
- To progressively enhance the capacities of public officials involved in policy formulation, planning and local administration.
- To facilitate and assist government bodies in the development of responsive and highly-technical plans, feasibility studies and policy recommendations.
AREAS OF WORK/ SERVICES OFFERED:
The Institute provides the following technical consultancy services and collaborative engagement to any and all government agencies/ officials:
- Trainings/ Capacity Buildings
- Technical Assistance in the Formulation of Key LGU Plans
- Research- Feasibility Studies, Market Studies, Development Plans, Policy Reviews
